GPS, or global positioning systems, collect data from satellites and use triangulation mathematics to determine their exact location on earth. Over the years, GPS systems have become much smaller and more powerful and today portable gps systems provide gps navigation to individuals in handheld form, embedded within vehicles, and now even in cellphones. The shrinking of gps receivers have allowed manufacturers to embed them in other products or in much smaller form factors. The magellan gps line of products is a great example of this. GPS receivers can even be engaged using bluetooth gps technology to reduce unsightly cords (especially good for automobile applications). GPS systems not only provide location based information but also motion speed, altitude, longitude/latitude, and very accurate clocks.
